The background

Q*bert is a classic arcade game that was released in 1982. It is a is a 2D action game with puzzle elements, which makes it a timeless game that can be thoroughly enjoyed by all ages. As a result, it became a popular fixture in manhy arcades and has been ported to a range of gaming systems. In fact, the game was Gottlieb’s most successful video game and it now ranks among the most recognized brands from the golden age of arcade video games. You might have even seen Q*bert in Disney’s “Wreck it Ralph” or Columbia’s “Pixels”.

The gameplay

The aim of Q*bert is to change the color of every cube in the pyramid by making the on-screen character hop on top of the cube while avoiding obstacles and enemies. The player uses a single, diagonally mounted four-way joystick to achieve this.

Q*bert is the main character and central focus of the game. Q*bert starts each game at the top of a pyramid made of 28 cubes, and moves by hopping diagonally from cube to cube. If you land on a cube, the cube will change colour. However, in the later stages, you need to land on the same cube twice for this to happen, making the game twice as hard. Once you have changed he colour of the entire pyramid, you can progress to the next stage.

It’s not just as easy as it sounds though, because Q*bert will have to avoid a range of enemies to be successful, and the game will get progressively more difficult.

So, for hours of fun and entertainment suitable for all audiences, why not check out our Q*bert machine, here at Williams Amusements?
